Hi

my name is Julie I live in the UK and my Great Great Great Grandad was James Goffe of Goffe & Sons Mineral water factory, his eldest son Samuel was my Great Great Grandad and my Great Grandma was Clara (Samuels eldest daughter). I can see that you are related through one of Samuels brothers, I have a little information about the Goffes as I have been researching my ancestors infact I have even discovered James grave in Birmingham I can send you a picture. I have no photos of Goffes apart from my grandad which I will share with you-his name was Robert Bernard-Goffe Doran and of course my mum his daughter who was called Marie. I would appreciate any photos you could send me for my family tree via email. By the way my daughter and 3 grandchildren live in Western Australia, what a small worrld!

Warm regards Julie (Hall) gret great great grandaughter of James and Sarah Goffe

In the Royal Navy, soft drinks are known as Goffers and they are perchased from the Goffer Bar. To my knowledge this word has been in use for many years, going back before we had cans of soft drinks. I have often wondered what the origin of this word was. Perhaps there is a conection?

Hi Julie, what a small world it is,yes we are rellies, our line is through,James,Henry,Walter and Henry Richard Goffe
will send you all l have collected, and what a great forum, new stuff every day

I wish I had found this site earlier, been researching for last few years and this site is flippn brill.
Not only am I researching my direct line but I am researching my Aunts husbands side as well and they are Goffe's - surprisingly :) anyway so far on the male side I have found:-
Sydney 1929-1984 (my uncle) born in Thimble Mill Road, Warley Woods
His father - Sydney 1903 - 1983(?) born in Kingsley Street, Walsall
His father - James 1868 - 1951(?) born in Gravelly Hill, Erdington
His father - Samuel John Goffe (1838)
I hope this is the family in this thread :)
Kind regards
Ann x

I will have to tell my Aunt as it was she who married into the Goffe's (I suppose I am a Goffe through de-fault ;)) - she will be very pleased. She has a copy of an advertisement which relates to the Goffes and their mineral water.

Hi, I'm an antique bottle collector and Goffe & son used one of the most famous and sought after Codd bottles (the sort with a marble in the neck). They used dark blue glass which is very rare in this type of bottle. They also sold their mineral waters in emerald green and amber Codds which are also very rare.
Best wishes,
alantheantiqueman.
