Welsh Chapel Wheeler St

Family legend has it that my 2x great grandfather Thomas Jones whose family lived on Little King Street, Nineveh Street and later Farm Street were regulars at the Welsh Chapel on Wheeler Street. My grandad always said that they came from Wales originally as the name suggests though according to the census records Thomas was from Tipton and his father William from Handsworth. There is a also a link to Park Street Tipton where their first children were baptised where Wesley's chapel once stood so non-conformist worship was definitely their calling. Would love to be able to find out more.
pics at post 21 & 29, Maps at post 42 & 46. The Chapel is now in Loveday St, round the corner from the Bull Pub, not far from the old Fire Station in town. many years ago, I popped in there to ask if anyone could translate a welsh headstone that was in Key Hill Cemetery. They were very friendly - worth checking out time of the ir Services and popping in if at all possible and helpful

I believe that it has closed down now. It certainly is currently in a sorry state, with litter and graffiti upon/around it. There is a link to an article in "The Dispatch" below, that confirms that it was struggling to survive two years ago. :(

Looks like that one is by Holloway Head. The Chapel I visited is in Loveday St, near the A38m Flyover in town
Yes, it is Brian (I confused the two), but my reference to the litter/graffiti refers to the chapel pictured below, that is sited on the other side of the road from The Bull pub near the flyover. I've noted that it seems to be no longer in use now, when attending our monthly pub quizzes.

That's the place, all right. Obviously less welsh men than there used to be around now, they used to bring their sheep here to market back in the day, some never went back, but found jobs locally that paid better. Shame.
