Finding Information

Hi, is it possible to find out more about someone other than where they are buried. I'm just wondering if the cemeteries had more info such as family members who arranged the funerals and addresses of the deceased person. This would be very helpful, thanks

Parish burial records may list an abode/place of death.

A death certificate may also have additional information - person registering the death, place of death. Though it is not always clear what there relevance are to the deceased.

My problem is the people I'm looking for have very common names so I can't really afford to buy certificates because their is so much choice.

I'm doing Ancestry so just trying to find any relatives. It's frustrating when you realise there are so many people with the same name. I tried the GRO to find out the mothers name but it seems the children hadn't been registered.

Thanks, MWS, Charles Smith, b1834?, married Elizabeth Ann Morgan, b 1829, Kenilworth. I've found several of that name, I suppose if I really got stuck in I would get there in the end

I see an Elizabeth born Kenilworth in Bham in 1851. She was the daughter of a John Morgan (b Market Harborough).

Is this her because she married a John Albert Smallman.

I assume you are interested in one of their (Charles & Elizabeth) children. It might be easier to start from them.

Yes, that's the one, it's tricky finding them on the censuses, and other trees seem to have part of the family but different parents.

If I have the right marriage then that Elizabeth Ann Morgan has Father John a porter
John Smith is a pedlar.
There are witnesses called Francis and Richard Smith.

That definitely rules out the Elizabeth I mentioned.

I can see a number of Smith/Morgan children reg. in Bham. Including a John Charles (Jun 1860) with a matching baptism 24 Dec 1860.

Wrong Elizabeth, in 1851 she was living with her father and step-mother. possibly at James Street

I can see 2 of the Smith/Morgan children in 1871 - John Charles and Alice Lavinia. with I assume their mother listed as Ann. She is listed as married but no Charles.

It gets confusing because I may have found two Charles Smith, one a horse collar worker and the other a glass worker, of course he could have changed jobs or it might be a different person.

There is also one daughter born in Walsall (1858) and baptised the same time as John Charles. She dies in 1861.

And two more daughters born Elizabeth Alice (Mar 1855) and Ruth Sarah (Jun 1856) reg. Bham with deaths reg. Walsall Dec 1857.

Don't think that is the right family

It seems to be.

In 1861 there is a Charles Smith living on Fazeley St with a daughter Florence. Her birthplace is listed as Walsall 1858 which matches the Smith/Morgan birth reg. that I mentioned. Charles is listed as a Horse Collar Maker b 1833 possibly Foleshill. Son John is also there.

Wife not with them.

Yes, I have that, I wonder if Elizabeth might be in hospital or something similar.
