thanks pedro..i can see why there could be a link between joseph scott and the tavern called the scott arms but what is the link to the street being called great barr streetThe info I have given is indeed from the Newspaper Archives, and the early history is from Aris’s Birmingham Gazette.
The earliest mention of Great Barr Street I can find is 1814 and it looks like the land was part of the estate of the late Joseph Scott. This could well be why the street was called Great Barr Street. There was also a tavern in the street in 1823 called the Scott’s Arms !
