120 - 122 Great Barr Street Digbeth.

The info I have given is indeed from the Newspaper Archives, and the early history is from Aris’s Birmingham Gazette.

The earliest mention of Great Barr Street I can find is 1814 and it looks like the land was part of the estate of the late Joseph Scott. This could well be why the street was called Great Barr Street. There was also a tavern in the street in 1823 called the Scott’s Arms !
thanks pedro..i can see why there could be a link between joseph scott and the tavern called the scott arms but what is the link to the street being called great barr street

Was not the main estate of the Scott family around Great Barr Hall ? And the big Scott Arms in Great Barr.
ahh i see what you mean pedro and yes you are correct although i would have thought digbeth a bit far out to be connected with the scott family having said that you could well be correct
