A cap was part of my school uniform fairly rigorously enforced.
I can't remember my grandfather out without a hat, cap or trilby even a very smart one in hand on his wedding day but I don't recall my father or his siblings wearing a hat. I've owned a variety of hats over the years.

All military surplus at a good price I assume? There were lots of WW2, US, helmet caps, woolen with a peak, kids loved them in the 50's.

Moving on to WWII, here's a list with the same information.
Starting off, we'll go with the Browning M1919 Machine Gun.

This thing shot a .30 caliber bullet. Tracer rounds were not issued to soldiers, so that's the only variation possible. It's a decent looking thing, in my humble opinion, and it was also used on top of some vehicles too. Pretty neat.
Second is the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle aka BAR

Chambered in 30–06, this rifle was a powerhouse. I'm talking blow a hole through your chest powerhouse. Very powerful gun. Probably my favorite gun to use in Battlefield 1, but I'm not a huge fan of its looks. It's just a little too blocky for my taste.
Third, we have the Thompson Submachine Gun. You know what that looks like, I'm not gonna put a picture here.
Chambered in .45 ACP, it was essentially an automatic pistol. No variation in ammo here.
The Ithaca M3A1 "Grease Gun" was basically the same, but cheaper and lighter at the cost of accuracy.
Of course, we can't skip the M1 Garand (not Grand).

The rifle was chambered in .30 caliber, the same as the M1919 above. This is where the variations come into play because the M1 Garand had the capability to mount the M7 grenade launcher. This grenade launcher was basically like putting a grenade on a stick.
