Olton station

The statue is a Saxon King by John Mckenna But why is it there, who paid for it etc. What's the story?
Looks as if there is a Facebook article which suggests it is to do with the history of the surrounding area. (I don't use Facebook so can't read the full article).
 
Olton station was originally two tracks, but then the railway was widened towards Olton with four tracks and widened beyond Olton to Lapworth when the present arrangement of four platforms was made and the original booking office reconstructed as the top image shows. The modern view is more bleak as only two platforms are in use.
