H Sheppard, Grocer Erdington

The is described as a WW1 grocery shop and someone on Facebook has said H Sheppard had a grocery shop in Erdington. That might have been on the High Street or elsewhere in Erdington, I can't see anything else as yet.
 
Thanks Janice and John. I think we can rule out Erdington #10 High Street then.

If it was #10 High Street Erdington, this would have been it's location (Pizza Bonita). There is similar (partial) panelling between other premises, but it's probably too different to be the location of Sheppard's shop. Also, there doesn't appear to be a passageway to the right (like there is today). Looks like the edge of another shop painted a different colour to me.

I can find no evidence of a grocer, H Sheppard at 10 high St Erdington in the directories or online electoral rolls from 1910 till 1932. the shop in that period seems to hav ebeen either a confectioner or a fish & chip shop. As Janice say there is aHarry sheppard at 9 Oakwood Road from 1915 till at least 1932.

does anyone know what the H stands for for his first name

here he is on the 1921..occupation milk seller address 9 oakwood road ..working from home

in 1911 he was at the same address but occ was gunsmith and his wife was down as grocer

The #10 on the sign reminded me of how the Co-op numbered it's shops. It's obviously not a Co-op shop, but I suppose (a long shot) it could be a reference to a supplier number.
 
These corbals would show up on the old photo, but there's no sign of them (or even the bottom of the corbal). So I don't think Oakwood is likely to be our place.
