There were back houses in William Street Lozells, the family of a friend of mine at senior school lived in one, four houses that you got to through an entry.
Perhaps that wasn't the case in the whole road?

hi sparks yes there was plenty of back houses in william st lozells but if you look at this map there were no back houses at the back of no 33 so the photo i posted must have been taken at the back of 33 william st ladywood...lyn

That back yard doesn't ring any bells for me at the moment , Ist question I'd ask why is the entry blocked off all things being equal you should be able to see William Street . I wonder if Mike could give a map bearing as to what part of the street it's on Lyn

It looks like a wooden gate street side of the entry which some yards had, also it looks like it's next to a factory with those steps going down from the second floor.

Looking at a much earlier map it looks as though this was the part in Court 9 being demolished (not showing on 1950s map).

A cracking image Lyn and must have some age to it as the chap on the right is blurred possibly due to the long exposure required.
i agree john...also looking at the way the men are dressed i would hazard a guess that the date could even be 1920s/30s
