Irving Street

Vivienne - you're cropping up all over the forum today - I too was born in Irving Street - in 1949 at 1/66 - Mac Joseph, of Old Ladywood website fame, has put some of my early life in Irving Street into print in his "Birmingham - We Lived Back To Back" book - Bill - PS - and I think that's Maureen Smith and her mom on page 121?

Great photo. We lived about 15 houses down from the Dolphin at 185 from about 1950 until 1959. The names and places I recall are endless. This forum is a gem.
 
I hope you don't mind me using your map, but does anyone know where on that map 8/105 Grove Terrace, Irving Street would be please?

Anyone is welcome to use any map I post . 8/105 would be house no 8 behind no 105 on the map. However, the map in my earlier post is from the 1950s, when the houses concerned had been demolished. Below is a map c1905 which shows the court in question with the house still standing in green. I am afraid it is not very clear, as the site I normally access maps from is having problems at the moment , and his is part of a larger map I had saved for another purpose

I a researching my family history. My grandmother was born in Irving Street Highgate in 1894. Would this be the Irving Street off Bath Row or was there another of the same name?

My dad lived at number 2 at the back of 159 Irving Street.. he was born in 1947...

Wonder if you were there with him?
 
Isaac Lindsay lived with Eva M Lindsay nee (Ross) 12 Court 39 The Limes Irving street. Isaac went on to marry Lilian Dodge who had lived 7 Back Witton Road. Lilian was a daughter of Charles Dodge who took in young footballers for the Villa 'Pongo' Thomas Waring being one of them. Does anyone have any information to add meat to the bones?

I was born in 1958 in loveday street . Then taken home to the 3rd house past that tree . We left there as there were 5 kids and we only had 1 bedroom and 1 attack room. But all our neighbours were fantastic. Had the best bonfire down the end of the yard in front of the toilets. I remember the shop closing down . They didn’t board it up as it was being demolished . Every kid in the street was in there . They had left all the old stock . Millions of those plastic sunglasses (well it seemed like millions). We were there almost last . Then we moved to the corner of cattel and tilton road. For 3 years then it was decided to demolish that one . So moved to dolman street. As you can see we lived in some sort after areas.

Hello Margaret - all your posts are pretty old now but I would love to know if there is a photo of Irving Street around. My great grandparents lived at number141 - it would be good to know if this was a back to back. I will be in Brum in 10 days' time and plan to visit
