OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

TQ in post 1710 above mentions "

The cube building in P1705 just across the road from the corner of The Royalty may well have been something else at times beforehand, but for me was always The Police Station. Seemingly with some history in that role as accompanying photos suggest, until eventually demolished"

The building that became Harborne Police Station was built about 1730 as the Harborne Free School [ie a chrity school] but rebuilt in 1821. In 1837 the school moved to a newsite near the parish church of St Peters. I can't trace when it became the police station but interestingly when Birmingham wanted to annexe Harborne in 1890 one of the promises made by way of inducement was that the Hatborne Police Force would be raised from six to nine. It closed as a plice station when Rose Road station opened.

Continuing along the canal towpath and we are now standing on Holliday Street aqueduct , as I have said, on this roll I have no date information, but at first glance it could be any time in the last 50 years!! Firstly no traffic so I presume a Sunday, but when it is compared to today that open vista on the left has been lost and there are a line of new buildings on the right. This view has a more industrial feeling to it

Steve this is another view of what was the City of B,ham PWD, Rowe Bros Showroom on the right with their showrooms just passed the road signs

I am at a loss for the next picture so need you help, is it Pegtex Limited, fine cobbled street and a fifties brick built building - I am guessing here, and no other clues I am afraid as it is not mentioned on my list -
EDIT From A Sparks
The company name is Pegrex Ltd... Pegrex is in New John Street Birmingham - Thankyou

Last few off Roll 29 and me now move to The Wellington , corner of Bishop Street and Gooch Street, all boarded up and looking rather sad for itself, but with the M&B globe still intact! taken in November 1990, strange how the brickwork is randomly coming through the paint, also the usual Bill Posting for "Musical artists"

We now have another outdoor - this one seems to be still in use - it has a licensee board above the door - looks like Elizabeth Mullins. Location is given as 187 Francis Street and taken 3rd November 1963. Mitchell and Butlers wording on a painted background - was there a painted sign there in the past ? . Nothing else to suggest it was an outdoor but I assume if you lived in the area you knew where and what it was.

we now move onto a selection of Outdoors - never sure if people enjoy them - they all look the same - but I suppose if one was down you street you would like to see a picture of it.
First is 143 Cromwell Street taken in July 1953, three storey building with very small windows on the front, large M&B Ales and Stouts sign and I assume the licensee at the door, front bay window display of a few bottles but much like other properties which I assume it used to be.

You're most welcome Steve you're doing and have done a great Job

this is 47 Stour Street, Ladywood licensee Mary .... ? just cannot make it out - someone with the books may help here.
What interests me is the right hand side of the property - is this all the outdoor - there seems to be a number of windows and pipes suggesting a number of properties and what seems to be a large porch in the middle but to where?

Edit - property renumber as 47 - Thanks Mikejee.

From mikejee: In the 1930s there was a beer retailer at no 47 , Walter James Sabell, the license changing to Mrs Mary Eleanor Sabell between the 1940 and 1943 editions. She remained there till some time between 1952 and 1955.

We have 137 Emily Street Highgate next, a bit simpler with just the two storeys but I love the arch and passage down the side and the piece of fencing at the end . Was it only M & B that had outdoors? This picture was again taken in tne 1950's

Next picture is described as Outdoor in Sparkhill, Long Street and Spark Street, taken on the 9th June 1963 and looking like it has not been an outdoor for a while, love the two styles of street lamps and that small chimney in Spark Street - wonder what that was used for?

This must be no 26 Long St, which in 1956 was run by Mrs Marie L.Wells
