Ever wondered about the origins of this clock at Five Ways roundabout? It was erected in memory of John Birt Davies, Birmingham's first coroner. My new book, Probing Deaths, Saving Lives, explains all.

I assume the last paragraph indicates that he wanted people to vote for him on the basis of his record alone, not because of his connections to the Liberals and the Political Union.
There's a chapter about John Birt Davies in my earlier book, A Stream of Lives, but I've also published a full length biography of him entitled Probing Deaths, Saving Lives, both available from Troubador Books"Who do you Think you are" magazine, for January 2025, has an article concerning Angela Coulter's research into he ancestors. She is the great great granddaughter of John Birt Davies. He was The Birmingham Coroner at the time of the explosion at Ludlow’s at Wilton in 1870. Her father's side of the family had come from Birmingham. She says that Birmingham Library holds a record of all Davies' inquests. She has wrote a book about Davies called "A stream of Lives."
She was also related to Redfern Davies who worked at Walsall Cottage Hospital and was involved with "Sister Dora.”
