must be slipping folks...i have had these photos for couple of years now and thought i had posted them...couple of the street and of havergal house which opened in 1890 as a girls club..a place for factory girls young and old to socialise..learn to knit and sew and were taken on outings to the lickey hills or the seaside...it was eventually opened to boys and continued until the 1960s when it was taken over the boys brigade...the building is still there..

The Havergal House in these photos dates from the autumn of 1934, the foundation stone being laid in September of that year.
Does anyone else remember the accident on Newtown Row in the early 60s, when a van/lorry with a ladder protruding from it's roof came down from Hatchett St and pierced an out of city bus and killed a passenger?
bit early for me banjo but maybe someone could take a look in the newspapers for youDoes anyone else remember the accident on Newtown Row in the early 60s, when a van/lorry with a ladder protruding from it's roof came down from Hatchett St and pierced an out of city bus and killed a passenger?
Thanks for that information Mike, it's certainly brought that incident back to focus for me. Although I can't remember all the details (the fact it was girders makes it more shocking than I remember), every time I've ever passed Hatchett St since, I've thought about that day. Is there a date Mike?I assume this is what you refer to, though the damage was done by 30 ft steel girders, not a ladder

Lyn, I think I may have a cropped version as apart from the yesterday reference, I can't see that date anywhere. But, thank you for giving me the date anyway.banjo if you hover over the snippets the dates are there...the one with the photograph is dated 2nd nov 1960 and says the accident happened the day before
