Courts at Great Hampton Row 1851 & 1861

Elmstone

proper brummie kid
My gg-grandmother and family were at 3 Court, 18 Great Hampton Row on the 1851 & 1861 censuses. Would there be any maps showing the Court layout for that address, and where should I look if so? I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

post 132 on the great hampton row thread has a map which shows court 3 next to the minerva pub...the building is still there but no longer a pub but if you go onto google st view its easy enough to pinpoint where court 3 once was...as janice said its best to start readying a thread from post 1 so that you do not miss anything

I was confused as the post says 3 court 18 - is that house 3 in court 18?? Or court 3 at the back of 18?

just had a look at the map on post 132 showing court 3 and its looks like there are only 15 houses in it so it is most likely court 18 house no 3 but still worth checking on the census

David Davies b. 1805 South Wales /Elizabeth Wale b. 1820 Long Lawford, daughter Sarah Margaret Davies b. 1843 Rugby. David Davies is shown on the 1851 census as 'Shoe Maker Master'. The address is just #18 ~Great Hampton Row - with next address on list as No. 22. He dies in 1858. On the 1861 census his widow Elizabeth is shown as 'Boot Shoe Dealer' at "3 Court, No. 9 18 Great Hampton Row"....maybe the two addresses were slightly different?

That's just what I was looking for, thank you for directing me to it, am very grateful.

i think it is the building on the opposite corner to the Minerva - that was 17 and in later directories 18 is listed after Mott Street.

I note your username - Sarah Margaret Davies married a William Henry Burns (my gg-grandfather) in Birmingham 1865 ....any relation?
I am only a Burns by marriage but I don't think so. We have a William married a Matilda in 1862 and then the other Williams are later.

My Burns family were spread about Birmingham, from William Burns b. 1788 who was a Brassfounder. There may be a tenuous link somewhere, you never know! Thank you once again - you've been a real help today! I think I may be popping up again in the future with more questions, this is a brilliant site.

Watch this space there may be a map coming to show number 18

Brilliant - thank you so much for that. I can't believe that I made such a basic error over the address after so many years of family history research!
