Donation of Pictures, Prints & Books - Old Birmingham

YGB

proper brummie kid
My Father, who was a member of this forum, sadly passed away in May 2021, aged 92 years young. Her was born in a back to back house in Brookfields and was very proud of his Birmingham heritage. I have a box of immaculate pictures, prints and books relating to old Birmingham that I am happy to donate. However, having tried various organistations (Central Library, Back To Backs, Birmingham Archives), nobody seems interested in taking them. It seems such a shame, not to mention waste, just to have to bin them. If anyone can suggest anything or anyone, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Yx

Hi YGB, thank you for contacting the forum, I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing and I'm sure there are people on here who will be pleased to receive these, if not I would be more than happy to have them. Are you living in Birmingham ? if so which area ?

hi YGB could you tell us your dads user name please as i have noticed a few elderly members have not posted for quite a while..if we know what name he went under we can post about his passing on our members condolance thread...

with regards to the birmingham prints books and pictures that your dad left... if you live in birmingham ?and could drop them off at my house i am quite happy to put them in as raffle prizes at our next forum meet up...all revenue raised at our raffles goes towards keeping this wonderful forum running as it is run only through the kind donations we receive off our members..

thank you for getting in touch our thoughts are with you at the loss of your dad

Thank you for your reply. Can I ask what you would do with them? The box could be collected from Hall Green or Yardley Wood. Yx

Hello, I’m not sure of my Dad’s user name, but I will see if I can find it for you. What area in Birmingham are you based, for potential drop off? Yx

I was about to say the same Lyn. Good raffle prizes or photos can be scanned in and posted.
If this side of city I would be happy to collect or have them dropped off.
Hello, thank you for your reply - where about in Birmingham are you based please? Yx

Hi YGB,
I'm a Brookfields / Hockley lad myself. What was your fathers name, where did he live. I moved from the area in1968 after a house fire.
After all these years I still enjoy a walk in the area. I feel at home in the area.

Thanks Nick. I am waiting for a reply to my PM sent to YGB but it sounds as if they are only up the road from where I live.

Thanks for the offer. I have spoken to Yvonne and she is dropping the stuff to me. Then I will liaise with Lyn about getting it to her as necessary.

A huge thank you to Yvonne and hubby who have just delivered 2 boxes of Birmingham books and prints.
One box of lovely framed prints of old Birmingham plus some laminated pics which I will try to scan and post as appropriate.
One box of books many signed by their authors (Carl Chinn, Aston Douglas, Ron Smith) and that is only on a quick rummage.
Thanks again Yvonne.

You're very welcome Janice. Whilst it was sad to see them go, it means a lot that Dad's "pride and joy", will go to people who will appreciate them, whilst also supporting the forum. It was nice to meet you. Kind Regards. Yvonne x

The local history collection maintained by Birmingham Reference Library may be interested in your father’s collection.
