the old bank and the two buildings next to it have now gone...took a look this morning and all that was left was the banks door...i have some photos which i will post asap....was told that there is still a massive walk in vault below ground that has to be removed and that a 24 story high rise is to be built on the ground...st view below

I assume the new building is for offices. Can’t really see the need.

Viv.
viv swivel round on st view you will see the 2 sentinel residential blocks the person i spoke to said they will match those although i did not think to ask what the building will be used for...maybe someone could look on the planning site

Don’t think residential properties can be that high anymore Lyn. But could be wrong. I wondered if it’ll be for hotel or office use.

I see the KohINoor is still there. Used to go there quite often. It was the restaurant with the tree in the centre of the room. I thought it was further around the corner in Essex Street, but memory is a bit hazy on that one. Viv.

Just checked planning site - there are 101 documents but:
The proposed develoment seeks the “Demolition of existing buildings and site clearance for the erection of 28 storey tower to include 154 apartments (Use Class C3), ground floor commercial/retail unit, with ancillary resident amenity space and all associated works” The proposed development provides for 154, 1 and 2 bedroom residential apartments, and a 3 bedroom penthouse apartment delivered through a 28 storey building.”

and the decision;
BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL GRANT PLANNING PERMISSION SUBJECT TO CONDITIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING DEVELOPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PLANS AND APPLICATION AS NUMBERED ABOVE: Demolition of existing buildings and site clearance for the erection of 28 storey tower to include 154 apartments (Use Class C3), ground floor commercial/retail unit (Use Classes A1/A3), with ancillary resident amenity space and all associated works at Land at the corner of Essex Street and Bristol Street, Birmingham, B5

There is an intersting heritage assessment document.
Application is 2020/02766/PA

if anyone does not know then the planning site is found here

I’m amazed. Didn’t think they could build domestic that high anymore. Shall have a look at the heritage link you’ve given. Thanks. Viv.

The link is to the planing site and then you need to click to find the documents -
trying this to see if it links straght to the heritage document

edit - didn't work.

I can't attache the pdf file as it is too large. So see instructions in post #12

What horrifies me is that in the "heritage " document I find that that awful, decrepit ugly line of buildings named the Ringway centre, along Smallbrook ringway, are listed buildings.

thanks jan....i must have miss heard the man i was talking to mind you it was very noisy lol...he must have said a 28 story building not 24 as i thought...its a prime site for people to live although i cant think why

lyn

No, afraid not Janice. Coming up as an error. Viv
Sorry - it is one of those sites where links change - think it is security.
Go to planning site, enter the applcation number 2020/02766/PA and search, click on application number again
then click on "view associated documents".
Part way down 1st page is one called Heritage Addendum. It is a pdf file.

This is an architect drawing of what the view on Bristol Street will look like. Red arrow is Thorp Street and the blue arrow is the Koh-i-noor. Out of proportion???
