Pub Quiz Time Again

No Lyn, the pub appears to have been opposite or close by the library. A smoke room was found as part of quite a few pubs I believe, however Kieron would confirm or deny that.

Somewhere on the forum we have discusssed this Davenports pub, but not sure if we came to any conclusion as to its identity

The shops on the left are parts of Tullett's Drapers 292-296 Coventry Road, and on the right Frazier Bros grocers at 298-300 Coventry Road.

Tried looking it up and 1911 census has 48 - 50 Little Green Lane as a public house but frustratingly no name.

That's a photo I saw a couple of days ago and got the impression that Wimbush's Bakery was built on the site so if that is the case the pub is long gone. I believe the photo is dated 1907. I have read so may pub names my head is spinning - and I haven't touched a drop! But The Anchor seems to be remembered.

In 1927 it is reported that one of the oldest licensed houses in Birmingham, the Vine, Green Lane, Small Heath, believed to be three centuries old is to be demolished.
That was another name that I considered, but all I found was the well mentioned - on BHF - one in Aston.

I think we are looking earlier than Mike's map but the earlier maps do not have a public house marked - or not one that I can see.

There are several possble beer retailers but they are not listed with a pub name which I thought was what was wanted.

Post 17 mentions the Black Horse. I think that could be it, It was replaced by Wimbushes I believe.
Winbushes was on little green lane beside the cricketeers arms. The black horse was on green lane but further up from the swimming baths. We used to go to the loading bays of winbushes and steal boxes full of cakes. The black horse is/was (renamed) on the corner of great wood road.

Ever
According to the lamp it's called The Smoke Room!

Sorry.
Every pub had a smoke room. Then at some point we could smoke in all rooms. When I first started drinking the gunner, coach, brighton all had smoke rooms, but they were alterated and you could smoke in any room, then we went full circle and no smoking in any room, but they should bring back smoking rooms, so you have the choice. The gunners had several rooms and so did the Wrexham, coach and horses, Victoria and etc. All had a smoking room that you had to use if you wanted to smoke.

Its the junction of Green Lane and Victoria Street. The board above the shop on the corner is advertising Aston Ales and Stouts but it might not have sold them. I've attached the same event from a different angle. There was also damage done to Palace Road a bit further up in the direction of Hob Moor Road

As the Ansells outdoor had significant damage after the tornado (1931) it crosses my mind that the pub we are trying to name also suffered damage and that was the reason for its closure and conversion to another use.
