No Lyn, the pub appears to have been opposite or close by the library. A smoke room was found as part of quite a few pubs I believe, however Kieron would confirm or deny that.
That's a photo I saw a couple of days ago and got the impression that Wimbush's Bakery was built on the site so if that is the case the pub is long gone. I believe the photo is dated 1907. I have read so may pub names my head is spinning - and I haven't touched a drop! But The Anchor seems to be remembered.ok thanks alan ive been in quite a few smoke rooms...is this photo any help...was it a davenports houseView attachment 142902
That was another name that I considered, but all I found was the well mentioned - on BHF - one in Aston. In 1927 it is reported that one of the oldest licensed houses in Birmingham, the Vine, Green Lane, Small Heath, believed to be three centuries old is to be demolished.
Winbushes was on little green lane beside the cricketeers arms. The black horse was on green lane but further up from the swimming baths. We used to go to the loading bays of winbushes and steal boxes full of cakes. The black horse is/was (renamed) on the corner of great wood road.Post 17 mentions the Black Horse. I think that could be it, It was replaced by Wimbushes I believe.
Wrexham on the cov road and coach and horses was on the bordesley green opposite charles road.the wrexham or the coach and horses she says hopefully

Every pub had a smoke roomare we saying the library used to be a pub ?
According to the lamp it's called The Smoke Room!
Sorry.
Every pub had a smoke room. Then at some point we could smoke in all rooms. When I first started drinking the gunner, coach, brighton all had smoke rooms, but they were alterated and you could smoke in any room, then we went full circle and no smoking in any room, but they should bring back smoking rooms, so you have the choice. The gunners had several rooms and so did the Wrexham, coach and horses, Victoria and etc. All had a smoking room that you had to use if you wanted to smoke.According to the lamp it's called The Smoke Room!
Sorry.
Not the Wrexham, was not far but it was around the corner. This is on the corner. It had gone by 1970, probably many decades before.Small Heath Tavern , 270 Coventry Road (also known as the Wrexham)
The Vine Pub changed its name to the Grapes. Its long since closed but the building is still there on Green Lane. That was another name that I considered, but all I found was the well mentioned - on BHF - one in Aston.
