Hi everyone, Simon here again, your friendly token trader based in Suffolk.
Yet again I have come into possession of a pub token from Birmingham from the latter Victorian period I believe of the Three Horseshoes in Summer Lane.
It has the name of C Allender on it so that person was obviously the publican.
What is odd is that it was originally a two and a half d token but the 1/2 has been scratched off to make it a 2d token. Obviously prices rose and landlord amended his tokens by an amount to cover for the rising prices or he had run out of 2d’s and amended his other ones to save him having to get more made by die stampers such as T Pope, Whitaker etc.
Anyway I have seen a one and a half version on eBay Ireland for £34 but no 2 or 2+half versions.
If anyone would like to have this token please contact me.
