Hi I am new member and just wanted to clarify if we can re post photos on other social media platforms if we give credit to source ? thanksThis is the corner of Weaman Street and Bath Street looking towards St. Chads in 1902. The Bishop's House must have been behind the photographer. Weaman Street must once have been a longer road than it is today. Think the hotel was built over the lower end of the street where it joined Bath Street. Viv

I'm researching my great-great grandfather Samuel Smith of 66 Weaman St in 1867. He listed himself as a Gun Barrel Maker in the Post Office Commercial Directory that year. That's interesting. The family I am researching lived on Weaman Street, and on Whithall (Whittall) Street and were 3 or more generations of gun makers / gun finishers.

By the 1876 directory he is listed at 66 Weaman st as Samuel Smith & Sons.. this firm is listed here till the 1884 directory . By the 1888 directory they have removed to Witton roadI'm researching my great-great grandfather Samuel Smith of 66 Weaman St in 1867. Thank you. I quite agree and always err towards caution when identifying which Smith is which!Always tricky with Smiths.
Lived in Potters Hill in 1881, Tower Road in 1891 and Fentham Road in 1901?
That's intriguing Mike, which directory is that in please? I've only seen the Post Office Directory in 1867 and his listing at 66 Weaman St in the Commercial Directory on p261, but hadn't see a Samuel Smith & Sons entry.By the 1976 directory he is listed at 66 Weaman st as Samuel Smith & Sons.. this firm is listed here till the 1884 directory .
