thank you rosie i was hoping someone would see it as brewery st....that now confirms my gt gt gt gt grandads death and where he was buried...his wife is also buried at st james the less she died in 1835 brewery st so adds to confirming i have it right...wonderful..

oops think i may have made an error here in thinking i have 2 rellies buried at the same church...could someone have a look to see where john harrington was buried please buried 1860...i was told it was st james the less ashted...i have the buriel record of susannah harrington his wife which says buried 1835 at st james in the parish of aston...ive just been reading the st james the less thread and wendys says that there were 2 st james churches..one in albert road aston and the other st james the less in ashted... having said all that if the st james church albert road did not have buriels then both were buried at st james the less..just need to confirm it..

morning janice and this is the problem i have...john buried at st james the less ashted and wife susanna buried at st james aston..i have a copy of sussanas buriel record here and it says buried in the chapel of st james parish of aston ..as said earlier there were 2 st james churches...trying to find out if the one that was in albert road aston had buriels if they did not then both sussana and john were both buried at st james the less...ashed did at one time come under aston so i am leaning towards them both being buried at st james the less...

There are a lot of Aston church records on Ancestry but there don't seem to be any of St James in Albert Road. I think my father was christened there as were his siblings. His sisters were married there as well. I would love to find out if the records for St James, Albert Road exist maybe an email to the library. Hope you get a result Lyn keep us updated.

According to Bill Dargue's website St James Aston (Frederick Road) didn't originate until 1891. When I click on St James Aston on Ancestry it says "Register of Burials in the chapelry of St James Ashstead in the parish of Aston". Its records are only online until 1844. The records for Ashted, St James the Less don't start until 1845 so I suspect they are one and the same - simply a change of name or boundary or similar.

thank you so much janice you have just confirmed that both of my 4x gt grandparents john and sussanah harrington were both buried at st james the less ashted...i know for sure that john was buried there 1860 but on sussanahs death records 1835 it said buried at st james aston...just took another look at that record and it does say in the chapelry of st james so i am happy now..
many thanks again you have saved me a trip to the library for that perticular query although i do need to go to find out other things....my next mission is to try and find out if the bodies of the people buried at st james the less are still there as it was demolished in 1956 after ww2 bombings almost destroyed it...i suspect that they are still there as the area that was taken up by the church and graveyard is now a nice green area with trees planted...

I can't get onto the website I used yesterday as it seems to be down but, if my memory serves me correctly, it suggested some gravestones are there but lying int he grass but I can't remember what it said about bodies.
Have found the following:
Because graves have been desecrated in St James' churchyard, Barrack St,
Birmingham, the remains of the blitzed church are to be demolished and some
of the coffins re-buried elsewhere.
Part of the churchyard may be converted into an open space for public use.
A Corporation official said today that the site was in a re-development
area.
Representations have been made for action to be taken to tidy up the
churchyard and stop vandalism, he added.
There is a site for a new church nearby>
If the vault is still there and underground, it will have been sealed and
buried. If the vault was above ground, then it will probably have been
demolished and the coffins moved elsewhere.

hi janice yes i think you are correct about some gravestones being saved and laid out in the grassed area at the top of barrack st..but like you i am unsure about if the bodies of those buried are still there..i am only guessing that they are but i will be making efforts to find out for certain...most important that i find out..
