Hi Lyn,I did not know it was called The Brittania, there was a pub on the corner of Tower St and Hampton St,opposite St Georges church.
In the 60s it was called Jack Shaws by most regulars.Moss.

I can tell you that this pub is not the Britannia in Inkerman St, Proctor St, Nechells Place, Landor St, Lichfield Rd, Warwick Rd or Summer Lane. Of the others I couldn't say but as I don't remember them well. I would hazard a guess at the Britannia on the corner of Shrbourne Rd & Seymour St Balsall Heath simply because its the only one I can't remember at all.

This is it (on sherbourne rd) on the 1889 large scale OS map. It could be it

Hi Lyn,it's all coming back to me now.It was on the corner of Howard Street and Tower Street, known to the locals as Jack Shaw's.
It has been mentioned on the forum before. It was opposite St Georges church gates on Tower Street.Moss.

I think you mean Hampton St, not howard St. the 1900 Kellys gives it as a beer retailer, but lists it as being run by Samuel Shaw. i expect Jack Shaw was a later licensee in the family. Marked in red on the map

Does the street name on the right side of the pub read New John Street West?

hi lynn..pic 2 on my post no 4 is the brittannia inn that was on the corner of summer lane and new john street west as you spotted...its pic 1 that is wrong..i came accross this pic this morning with the caption brittania inn ..tower st but as i suspected there was no such pub there so now we have to find out which brittannia it is...
hopfully lol..

I think it must be the Hampton st one Lyn, as it is on Tower st, even though it is listed as 91 Hampton St

thanks phil...mike i would think thats it then..it the brit on the corner of hampton and tower st...thanks mike...
