Aston University Demolition

I work near here, so it is weird seeing two massive piles of rubble where Dalton Tower and Lawrence Tower once stood. Is odd Stafford Tower still being there and still in use.

Here they are on Friday two days before they were blown up.

And on Monday after they were blown up the day before

This is being discussed on Skyscraper City here Aston University Student Residences - Phase 2 | 18fl | Demo

More city memories going then - must look next time we come into town!!
Thanks for the pics Ell and the you tube Froth.

No problem.

They seem to be spraying water and the rubble that was left behind.

As you can see in the video (and others on Youtube) it generated a dust cloud.

This isn't the first time this site has been demolished.

Sure that Joseph Chamberlain had the slums cleared from here in the late 19th century (as part of the Corporation Street scheme).

If my memory serves me right I would say the 2 towers were built along the line of Gem St and White Lion Passage between Aston St and Coleshill St.Dek

I attended Gosta Green CAT (College of Advanced Technology), later Aston Uni from 1956 onwards. I do not recognise the red brick buildings that were demolished. Where were they in relation to the original buildings opposite to the old fire station & Halfords head office. OK, I live a long way from Brum (Australia) so I cant nip down the road to check - John

hi dek ;
bang on my mate thats correct as always i can recall the very one they built for the students and i can recall all the influcts of the students moving into costa geen and he finized the take over of he sack of pototoes every week end as they was filling up the accomodation block with there weed and a pint of cider for the whole night
they used to use the old scrumpy house up holloway then they built the block for them right behind the nurses block of flats for the general and on the gem street school
then there was the little shop built for them right behind the central fire station they started to make a fortune with these students when the block was made nd filled up
then there wasanother blck but then it started in my opniun to get abit drabby around there with these blocks over crowding the surrounding street ;
dek; the rds are correct and in my opiniun its not before time the knocked them down
sorry i did not see them for my self on the day they knocked them down ;what a great day i think the planners are slowly seeing the green throug the woods at last
dek ; have a nice day ; best wishes Astonian

Mom says they covered it on the Midlands news and ran the clips backwards and forwards so it looked as if the towers were rebuilding themselves!!
