Chelsea Barracks sold to Arabs

This a picture of the last guard leaving Chelsea Barracks, they were from 7 Company Coldstream Guards, the date? December 2007, because of their position they were sold off for Arabs to turn into Luxury
appartments, BernardView attachment 60867

Isn't this the barracks that Prince Charles got involved wit? Owned by a property company that belongs to the Brunei Royal family - if so it was bought some while ago?

Hi Bernie, I did mention that the guards moved out in 2007, HRH got involved with the planning people I believe, I just came across that photo on a old Christmas card, Bernard

It became the most expensive piece of housing land in the country at the time, just under 13 acres at over £70 million per acre. Doubtless the government found the money useful.

Let us also remember the two (civilians) killed and many injured as a result of a P.I.R.A. nail bomb there in 1981. Heavily populated urban areas are not, in my view, the place for army barracks - the security deserved for the forces, and the protection of their neighbours is made far more difficult by such positioning.

I used to pass Chelsea barracks regularly, twice a day two three or four times a week when I was coaching - it is between Victoria Coach Station and the then layover parking area in Battersea.

Hi Bernie, they didn't get all of the barracks, they missed out on the Large cast iron Regimental badges of the Scots, Coldstream, Grenadier, Irish and Welsh Guards Regiments. They were saved and stored. Returning to Public View last November, when the Duke of Edinburgh, dedicated the Household Brigade Memorial at the Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffs. We had a good day out as mentioned previously. Ragards George.

Bernard No 7 Coy, Coldstream Guards is the Old 2nd battalion (of sacred memory) contingent of the 1st Battalion, and sad I was a few weeks ago to see what the old hallowed ground so abandoned and shabby, but did enjoy a pint in Wellington barracks Sgts mess.

Hi Paul, I think forming 7Company was a crafty way of keeping more Coldstreamers on the ground, the y
were talking about doing away with the 3rd Batt; when I left in 53, when you look at the damage various
governments have done over the years to the army,, we are very lucky, Bernard
