What a wasted opportunity!!!

Seriously, thanks for the photos. You can never tell how much longer some of these pubs will last nowadays, and somehow an 'Aldi' or 'Lidl' and associated car park doesn't have the same photogenic quality or interest.

excellent pics froth:) the dog used to be a regular haunt of mine when i lived at castle brom....the poachers pocket look an interesting pub...looks quite old...when you say it was closed do you mean as in just closed on sundays or closed as in always closed:(

It used to be a farm. Turned into a pub about 20 years ago. It looked closed for good:(

We saw this place on our dry pub crawl. "The Castle" Was it a pub? It's now a private home. I think it was on the Water Orton road. Not far from Castle Bromwich Hall.

Frothy. The "Castle" was never a pub, it was a general store, known to all in the are as the Castle Stores. It was owned by the Waite family up until sometime in the late 90's when Mr Waite passed away. The new owners decided to turn it back into a house.

Thanks chocks. I was convinced it was a pub. You live and learn:)

Hi Frothy. Further to my post #13, I may have been a little hasty. Today I have spoken to a relative of the Waite family who told me that during renovation work in the 1940's evidence was uncovered that suggested that the Castle may have been a coaching inn sometime between the 17th/early 19th century. Just goes to show one should never say never. I'm sure someone can throw more light on this one.

The Poachers Pocket was boarded up for ages, but then they started working on it, so I think they may be reopening it, but I'm not sure.

I remember the Castle Stores, I used to cycle up there from the Firs Estate as it was the only shop open on a Sunday afternoon in those days.

This is for you Frothy:D when these mobile bars are on the road there will be no need for a pub crawl!!! :(:explode::'(:D:D:D. Len. With Thanks to todays Daily Mirror.

Froth the Poachers pocket was indeed part of Cole Hall farm. It was purchased by Bank's brewery in the mid 80' and called the Farm.

Frothblower, It was from todays Daily Mirror, Page 18, Bottom Right (no pun intendid!!!). Len.

Frothblower, Re The White Hart, I visited it some times in the late 50`to 60`s, in the lounge bar you were served through a hatch in the wall the landlord named Bates sat on a chair by the hatch & if he did`nt like the look of you (local or stranger) he told the barman not to serve you and towards the end of the night he would tell the bar staff to open all the doors & windows summer or winter and every one had to leave, he would sink pints + whiskey and be well p-s--d by this time which could be any time before 10pm. Len.
