In 1911 my Grandfather was living at 3 Back, 303 Farm Street. Can anyone help me to pin point the location of the house?

Yardley

Yardley
no 303 was on the north side between burbery st and Gt King st. It was close to Burbery st, as the numbers straggling burbery st were 306 and 307. At the time you are refering to the end (306) is occupied by a pearl button manufacturer, Broughton & Brook. Therefore on the 1913 map attached Back 303 must be the yard marked in red.

Mike

hi all...i am posting here rather than on the farm st school thread as more members will be alerted to it... i received a letter today from the archives dept of central library approving my application to view the records of farm st school....i will be able to view the boys admissions from 1949/65..girls admissions from 1949/65...and the punishment book....as one or two members cant quite remember how many times they got the cane off smithy the head....if any of you would like me to look up any info from these records i am happy to do so...just let me have the details..also if anyone would like me to make another application to see earlier records of maybe any ancestors who attended farm street i am also happy to do that..once again just let me have the details....

with the weather as it is i probably wont be going up till next week so theres no rush...

I wish you well but when I tried to look up Lozells school I was told viewing was only for after 100 years

Ray

hi ray...i have the written authority to view these records....when i was at the archives about 3 weeks ago i was able to look at photos and letters dating back to the early 1900s of farm st school....this is what it says on my letter of permission

....i.....my name....request permisson to consult the records written overleaf..farm st school...and agree to make use of any personal data contained therin in compliance with the data protection act 1998. my research will not be used to support measures or decisions with respect to particular individuals and will not cause or be likely cause substantial distress to any person who is the subject of those data while he or she is alive or likely to be alive(assuming a life span of 100 years)

i will not make the results of my search available in a form that indentifies any data subject without the consent in writing of the data subject.

i have to sign this..

i used to attend lozells girls school and was hoping to gain access to these records...i will make enquires and get back to you as i cant see any reason why you would not be able to do this...

I remember Mrs Crowe had 2 shops opposite each other ,1 was a drapers & the other was a grocery shop . this was in the mid to late 30s . she had twins a boy Tony & a girl & an older son. my parents had a fish & chip shop in Farm st.
Jean

hi jean..do you recall a shop run by a miss bunch...think it was drapery etc...it would have been more or less farm st school....

lyn

Hi Jean
I lived in Lennox st I remember a fish and chip shop in Farm St was it the one by Lawleys and the butchers as there was a little grocery shop opposite I worked there every weekend and school hols
(Lozells st Sn School )
The grocery shop was run by a Fanny Green after her husband died, and if I remember right they were related to the Lawleys greengrocers anyway
Lawleys son I think brought the fish shop.then it was changed into a house.
