neiljw, The TE, Time Expired medal awarded to your Grandfather was given to regular soldiers at the end of their signed up service, some soldiers resigned, some were conscripted at the outbreak of WW2, his medal card does not seem to record that he was Mentioned in Despatches, i could be wrong, other forum members may be able to help. Len.

Neil. Sorry to say I do not have access to that sort of info. Have you thought of contacting the Regimental Museum of your Grandads regt, they may have the regimental diaries in their possession, and he will undoubtedly be mentioned in there. Hope this is of help,

Barrie.

Neil, just to be completely clear and accurate. The medal card says that Alexander Wallace was awarded

> the 1914 Star
> the British War Medal
> the Victory Medal
> The Territorial Force Efficiency Medal. This was for a total of 18 years service in the TF, towards which war service counted double. So he was a pretty early recruit to the TF when it was established in April 1908.

He also claimed the "Clasp and Roses" for his 1914 Star. This was only given to a man who had served under fire at some point between 5 August and midnight 22/23 November 1914. The clasp was a kind of bar that was affixed to the ribbon of the Star when it was worn hanging, and the pair of small silver roses was for fixing to the ribbon when it was worn on a bar (or strip).

He served in the 1/5th Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). You can track their service here https://www.1914-1918.net/blackwatch.htm (there is also info on each Division they served with).

There is, I am afraid, no such thing as a Time Expired medal.
He may have been mentioned in despatches but this card does not say so.

Try searching the online London Gazette using his number (I always find that gives a better strike rate than searching by name). If he was mentioned he will be listed.
