Birmingham 'hard' pubs

Charlie

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Take a look at the Birmingham Its Not Sh*t Website and scroll down to "Hardest Pub in Birmingham" forum. What do YOU think?

Oh I like this one!
I guess 'Hard' as regards a pub is subjective.
I knew a few that could lay claim to such a title.

The website talks a lot about The Monkey House in Nechells, which has been mentioned here before. That must have been a lovely place!
I remember going into The Costermonger in town some years back, eldest son was going to see a group and I needed a pee. Five minutes later I left, dragging son out with me, some unsavoury characters used that bar!

Perhaps not 'hard' but very quiet.

I was just having a phone conversation with my exhusband and we were discussing the 1960s.

He told me that when he worked on the buses he was passing the little pub on the corner of Cato Street(can't remember the name)when a music machine/jukebox type thing was thrown into the road in front of him.
The pub had decided to introduce music as part of the service but a couple of the regulars objected.

I don't blame them, I heard it was all over a 'Freddie and the Dreamers' track..I'd have done no less.

I used the Monkey House pub from time to time and any thing you hear about is true,i was in there this one particular night and this tramp was having a pint of rough cider he was quite drunk any way he fell on to the fire and nobody batted an eye lid:D:D:D:D:D

Saving on firewood, presumably.

I've heard tales of the Monkey House, too. None of them good.
