Must have been near Varna road then.On the right of that photo stands the Cannon Hill PH I believe its a community Centre now, One of the pubs that I used in my callow youth. I drank in the smoke room at the back which at that time was well frequented by ladies of the night.
On the left of the photo the last shop before the old tram depot was a West Indian café. The name escapes me after all these years, but it was the first place I ever heard real Reggae music and not the tame stiff we used to hear on the radio at that time.

Not wishing to be insulting but in the early sixties some of the older mechanics used to go on road test around that area taking the younger lads with them. One day the exhaust system dropped off one of the vehicles on test and and neither the driver or young lad would stop to pick it up as not only the ladies but also their minders were not too happy about some of the rude comments that were shouted at them.nickcc101
Why does everybody go on about Varna Rd, when they think of Balsall Heath.
To answer your question, yes it was quite near to Court Rd. Just a short walk through Calthorpe Park.
I can tell you though there was more of the sort of trade you are thinking of went on in the Cafe's and pubs of Balsall Heath than ever did in Varna Rd.

How very true, but when you're 16 yrs old you don't have that much sense, or at least most 16 yr olds don't.nickcc101
Not that I would want to defend such a trade, but if you shout rude comments after anybody no matter what their business is I would imagine you would get much the same reaction.
