Very bad news for the 500 workers due to be laid off permanently. So near to Christmas. Loved Hovis breads. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/500-jobs-axed-as-birmingham-hovis-321663

Fantastic you were ahead of myself I was a Production Manager at Garretts Green bakery RHM from 1995 to 2009 do you remember Doug Fry and Christine WightmanHi all, i was telling my friend out in spain the very sad news that the bakery was to close and how meny years ago i would pass to my first job at garrets green bakery with lovely smell of breads baking at the very young age of just 15 . this is a little of whot he emailed Yes, I saw the news about the bakery in Garrets Green, this used to belong to RHM Bakeries years ago. I worked there as Bread and Confectionary Technologist in the early 70’s, I was seconded from the Regional Office of RHM in Golden Hillock Road, Smallheath for 2 years before being transferred to Enterprise Bakeries in Coventry as General Manager. The bakery used to be called Harding’s Bakeries. Just around the corner from my first bakery in Smallheath, The Uppercrust, was Wimbush Bakery which was also RHM, they used to produce the Mr. Kipling range of products, I also worked there for a time in the 70’s.my old friend later had a bakery at the fox and goose. like the lovly wendy i feel very sad for the 900 that will be out of work at a time when you most need funds .
