I like this as I know my John was involved in brass work - many thanks. Bit worried about the other one as he is described as a labourer. Also a John Burridge age 25yrs. Brassfinisher arrives Montreal 18th. June 1905 on the vessel KENSINGTON from Liverpool. Same person???
Yes I found that see #55 - and I am getting confused by all these John and Mary's with surnames beginning with B and the same address. I think we have two possibilities - the Canada marriage I found is a coincidence; or he came back under a different name. Thanks for the other ref to John Bentley. I can see I will end up having to buy some certificates - just need to think which otherwise it will be very expensive!Try John Lattam in 1911.
Hi Janice, my brother (Clive Leeson) and I (Anne Slinger) have been researching our family history and came across your posts. I am almost certain that you are a second cousin, your dad (Tom) was, I believe our mum's (WInnie's) cousin. Your gran (Ada) being my gran's (Kate's) sister. We were looking at the 2 brothers who went to Canada and realised the stories are similar if not identical. I have some letters written by Jack (John) Burridge in 1938 and 1939 sent to our grandma Kate from Toronto and Montreal. Jack lived in Toronto but visited Joe in Montreal regularly. Jack seems to have been a bit of a lad, rarely in work, enjoyed a drink or several and was the life and soul of any party. Joe on the other hand was very quiet. Joe had 2 daughters (One may have been Kay), Jack refers to 2 boys in his letters but it is not clear if they are his or 'the wife's' as he refers to his other half. 'The wife' regularly gave him money and put up with him despite of everything. You mention that your gran (Ada ) was the ninth of ten children but we were always lead to believe that it went: Tom, JIm, Jack (John), Joe, Walter, Bill, Henry, Annie, Kate and Ada. Making your gran the 10th and our gran the 9th. Anyway, we have only just started this investigation whilst you are much further ahead and have discovered a great deal more but thought you would be interested. AnneA big thank you to all who helped. I sent for the death certs of John Bentley and Mary Ann Burridge. John's dated 1919 names M A Bentley as the widow of the deceased and the address is .... 44 Blucher Street. Mary Ann's dated 1966 names M F Russell as daughter (I will come to that in a minute) and the address is..... 44 Blucher Street. It lists Mary Ann as the widow of John James Burridge. That means I know I have the right person. In addition (if you have been following!) M F (Minnie Florence) Russell named as daughter must be the Minnie Florence Bentley (also daughter of John Bentley not James Burridge) who, I think, married a Leslie Russell in 1938. This I think confirms that Mary Ann Bentley and Mary Ann Burridge are the same person. Phew. Still don't understand the 1911 entry.
