The church in a rural setting in this 1909 view. A tower seems to have been added since that time as well as boundary walls and hedging. In the B&W view, I think there’s someone in the field, obscured by the gate post.

The church was built in several instalments as and when funding became available from local benefactors. There was quite a distinct line on the roof caused by the different age and colour of the tiles. When the church was damaged by German bombing in WWII, they relayed the whole roof and missed up the tiles. It looks like one roof now.

The 1909 photograph is a real gem. thank you for posting. Haven't been on Forum for a while hence delay in responding. The church was built on land given to the church by Francis Willmot, a surveyor and owner of the Wake Green Estate. The church was completed in 1884 and Francis also paid for the wall and holly hedge surrounding the churchyard which were added at the same time. If you look closely at the photo you can just make out the wall & hedge.
The nave was extended in 1893 and the tower was added in 1932.
The lady is walking down Dyott Road. The field behind her was bought by the church in 1905, walled in 1910 and the vicarage built on it in 1923.
