The Royal Warwickshire Regiment Re-enactment Group will be commemorating a Memorial on June 7th to the Twentynine (29) members of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment that lost their lives that day in 1944 at The Battle of Lebisey Wood.

Brilliant. Where will this take place please.

Bit of a trip but no family member has ever thanked John for his sacrifice or the brave young Brummies who lost their lives or were injured. Sadly the whole Battle was poorly conceived with little intel and poor communications and they all basically walked into the camouflaged German positions.
The town major and dignitaries of Hérouville st Clair Normandy will be hosting it and there will be a parade of WWII vehicles and a reenactment. Montgomery III will be present and there is to be a conducted tour of the Battlefield.

Yes, this was the 1st record I saw. 154 Casualties. However I got a message from the Moderator of WW II Talk forum under the title :
2nd Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment June 6th-7th 1944

Go to the CWGC site & do a search.
Enter the date, Regiment & unit.
7th June 1944.
Royal Warwickshire Regiment
2nd.

I get 29 results.

So maybe 154 is correct and only 29 were named by the War Graves Commission.
I find out for sure on June 7th.

There will be a gentleman there who's father died in the arms of the medic (the only one to be able to administer morphine) who gave him a "living" report of the day

I seem to get deeper and deeper into this story and it started as family research into my father's favourite brother. I am going to his grave to pay my respects and leave a few Birmingham mementoes.

It say Killed and Injured so maybe both numbers are correct,

CWGC only names soldiers who were killed - presumably the 29. The other 125 must have been injured

A cousin of my mother, Captain Joseph Coley was in the Warwickshires. His name is on the wall at Arras as no body was found.

Lebistry Wood Normandy Memorial to the Royal Warwickshires. Four Descendants of the fall were there for the inauguration (June 7th 2022)

Coincidentally a great uncle of my husband is also remembered on the same wall.

Sadly though I went to the cemetery in Bayeux I was unaware of the War Museum so missed it.

Sorry about my previous comment about Bayeux. I should have written Caen museum. It is splendid. The Bayeux museum houses the tapestry. Well worth seeing though.

Went over to the Normady beaches back in the early 1980s from Dunkirk to Omaha then onto Caen and Bayeux. Very emotional and humbling. My uncle was rescued from Dunkirk . We owe them everything for how we live today and the past 78 years.
