I have studied this family for many years but like any family history there is always more to find. They were mainly needlemakers from 1785 yntil 1941. Any information would be appreciated

Hi,
I hope that following information will be of help in your search for your family history.
In the National library of Wales there documentary evidence that from 13th century the Morrall family held large areas of land in Shropshire.
In 1669 John Morrall married Judith Edwards. She was the daughter of James Edwards of Kilhendry in Shropshire. On his death the Kilhendry estate past into John Morrall possession . One of John’s son became Town Clark of Oswestry.
It would seem that from Shropshire, the descendants made their way to Liverpool, Walsall, Sedgley, West Bromwich and Birmingham.
In your search I hope that you can make I link to this Shropshire family and you may also find a link to the gunpowder plot.
Best of luck
Joff

morrall history

Hi Joff
Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the Shropshire Morralls but have never found a connection to my Warwickshire Morralls although I am sure there is a connection somewhere. I have gone back to 1584 but they all stayed in the same area generally. I have also heard about the gunpowder plot connection and even wrote to Lady Throckmorton at Coughton Court and the author Antonia Fraser who wrote a book on the subject. Both enquiries to no avail. I can only assume that Morrall was one of the "local gentlemen" involved in assisting the plotters. Certainly many of my ancestors were baptised or married in the chapel at Coughton, all being Roman Catholics. If you have any other information on this I would be very interested and thank you for your reply

the morrall family history

Hi Nick
Yes, I do have this family from the 1851 census on my family tree
he was living in "The Towers" Green lane at the time that was also his needle mill. What is left of the building is now a pub called the Griffin Inn.
regards Peter

I'm sure you are aware that "Abel Morrell's " existed as a factory in the most recent history of Redditch and Studley. Not sure though at what point did the Morrell family become disassociated with the business.

morralls

hi,
Thank you for your note about the above needlemaking family. In answer to your question the Morralls amalgamated with Lewis and baylis in 1898 but Abel Edgar Morrall remained as chairman until he died in 1943. This was the last of the Morrall family to be involved in the business
Regards Peter

I was born in Studley in the 50's (to much of a lady to say exactly when) moved away in the mid 70's though my family stayed there....

Anyway in the 60's we lived in Lansdown Road Studley and along the road lived a lady called Pat Morrall not sure if she was involved in the needle industry but she would have been born in the 40's 'cos she was the same age as my Mum. Anyway maybe you could try the electoral roll for Studley? (kept at Warwick record office)

Just curious,
Is this the same Morrall family that owned the rainbow casino in Portland road edgbaston?
