On the Good Classical Music on YouTube thread. Sospiri (Maurice) posted a link to Mendelsohn's Fingal Cave. Mendelssohn has a part in Birmingham history with his visits to the city.

The first visit was in September 1837 in the Triennial Festival an performed the oratorio of “St Paul.” Mendelssohn’s own account is reported in the Birmingham Daily Post of 1863...

[Thread title amended to include other classical composers]

In the YouTube classical music thread Maurice mentions Enigma Variations by Elgar...

A few of Elgar’s associations with Birmingham...

1905 Elgar appointed the Birmingham University's first Professor of Music.

1883 one of his first works “Serenade mauresque” was performed at the Town Hall.

For the Birmingham Festival of 1900 he set to music the poem of Cardinal Newman, The Dream of Gerontius. For the Festival in 1912 “The Music Makers,” and "The Apostles" was first heard at the Birmingham Festival.

Indeed, Pedro, and for much of his early life he was only twenty miles away and his birthplace is a museum at Lower Broad Heath. A true man of Worcestershire.
