G'day Folks,
I'm surprised there is not a definitive "schools" thread going on, but I'm only new to this caper, so what would I know!! lol
My great grandfather (Philip Henry Cooper) was born in Birmingham and went to school at the Elkington Street Board School until his mum and dad emigrated to good old Australia from where I write.
I will try and attacha scan of opening page, but if I fail the book is inscreibed thus: BIRMINGHAM SCHOOL BOARD .. PRESENTED TO Philip Cooper (hand written) for passing completely the 2 (written as roman numerals) Standard at the Elkington St. Board School, in the month of June 1886 and for making 350 attendnaces duting the School Year.
(Signed)
Alfred Boggeut (possibly l not t) Head Teacher
GEORGE B. DAVIS,
Clerk of the board.
The book is entitled "Great Englishman"
Is there anywhere where I can find out more about this school as I believe it is now closed.
Kind Regards,
Tony Cooper.
