Key Hill Cemetery Memorial Inscriptions

Thankyou so much for looking Wendy, much appreciated.
Back to the drawing board!
Regards
Alyson

I am very pleased to tell you all the Memorial Inscription project carried out by Dick Empson with the help of Doug Wilks has now been completed. Dick has kindly given me a copy of the book for the B.H.F. I can not photocopy or loan the book but I am happy to do look ups.
Please give as much info as possible but sometimes just a full name may do. Remember this is just a record of the memorial inscriptions and not a burial register. Some inscriptions are from graves that are buried so may be of great interest.

Don't forget I have to work in the daytime so will get back to you as quick as possible with any results.

Hello Wendy, my mother was buried at Key Hill cemetery. Her full name was Edith Lilian Layland, nee Small. Born 1901, died 1938. Do you have her record please

I have checked the M.I's and the index and could not find Edith Lillian Layland I also tried Leyland but sadly no luck. Are you sure it was Key Hill Cemetery as Warstone Lane Cemetery is next door.

Wendy,

Please could you check for:

GEORGE INSHAW - died 6 George Street, Lozells, Aston Manor, 13 July 1885, age 78.

Are there any other names INSHAW listed?

Mark

Hello Mark it does seem to be a family grave but sadly the memorial is missing. The area has had several problems with falling trees in the past.

Section F grave number 131

Emily Inshaw 1872
George Inshaw 1885
Edna Rowena Inshaw 1892
Mary Inshaw 1902

Good Luck Wendy.

It doesn't say that there is one buried so it was probably removed. It may have been smashed by a falling tree.

Thankyou Wendy - this is very useful.

Would this memorial have been removed completely or buried?

Mark

Hi Wendy, thanks for checking. Sadly the only other people who could confirm where my Mum was buried have all passed away, but I'm sure Key Hill was the cemetery they said. I'd never heard Warstone lane mentioned, but who knows? Is it possible to check here also?
Thanks anyway

Hi Mark It says nothing about being buried so it may have been smashed and then removed. Next time I visit I will have a look.

I don't have any records for Warstone Lane but you could email Handsworth Cemetery with the info you gave me and they will probably check one burial for you.

My computer is going in for an overhaul so after tomorrow I will not be able to do any look ups for two weeks. Thanks for your patience Wendy.

Hello Wendy. It is good to see the book of MI's being put to good use already.
If any memorial is identified could I remind you that it is possible to add a very short note about the people buried in the plot. i.e. who they were, what they did, where they lived etc. Let's say a maximum of 50 words.
Then if the family is particularly interesting or there is a story associated with them this could perhaps be written up, hopefully with illustrations, and placed on the website.
I can tell you that an on-line version of the MI's will shortly be available free to access by all. As soon as this is ready I will let you know.
Cheers

Dick

Dick I have made a note of the ones located so far I will collate it all when my computer has been sorted out. I have recently found a connection to The Nortons of Key Hill and will do a short piece on them although they are not all in Key Hill Cemetery. Arthur and Emma were my granny's aunt and uncle. I will ask the family if it's OK to publish.
Dick your hard work is very much appreciated and an on line version will help so many locate family graves.
Thanks for keeping us informed.

Hello Wendy,

Please will you find Selina Dianna Inwood for me, she was born and died in the same year 1850. I just found her on the BMSGH Index so I know she's there, but a plot number would be good.

Thank you.

Rosie.

Hello Wendy,

Thank you for finding Selina for me. It's very kind of you to do these look-ups for us.

Rosie.

Hello again Wendy,
I went to Key Hill yesterday to search for baby Selina's grave E45. There is a grassy section and E47 is in the middle, so she's buried near there.
It is so beautiful in the cemetery. I have passed the information on to another researcher too. I didn't know this part of the family existed until I was browsing " trees" on a family history website.....I double checked,
got the certificates, and Gt Gt Grandmother had married before. The second time she used her maiden name and said she was a spinster!!

Thanks again,
Rosie.

Rosie I am so glad you were able to visit the cemetery as you say it's beautiful. Pass on any info you like the more we find the more interest in the cemetery. I am happy to do any look ups.

Some of our ancestors told such fibs, just to make our job searching more difficult.

It's just amazing what can turn up in family history. I found the same when I realised I was related to the Norton family who owned a large store at the top of Key Hill. If I had known in the 60's I may have got a discount at the store!

I love to hear that people have found their relatives graves at key Hill and thanks to Wendy being able to do the look ups it is happening even more often now.:)

I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Key Hill Rosie:)

Wendy you are a star. Your inscriptions go past those on my photograph. It was given to me by my cousin a couple of weeks ago. She does not know
where it came from but it is our family. I used to work from Kenyon Street Police station and was in both cemetries on numerous occasions. Must have been blindfolded. It is only in the past few years I have learnt the whereabouts of my predecessors, thanks to Ancestry etc. How did you get on with enquiries with Elkington Lodge ?. Kind regards George.

Hello George I am glad you have solved the problem about your grave. The people at Elkington can't find any info about my gt uncle which is strange as it clearly reads the lodge number on his cuffs. I wonder if the records have been lost.
