The irony is cruel, the timing of the blow, Olympic victory filling all the news.
The nation celebrating and the next thing we all know?, death, destruction, frantic fire crews
London, our old rival for unimportant things like stadiums and sports events and such
Open and friendly, the cradle of freedom, for terrorists I guess an easy touch
But Londoners know the score, they’ve all been here before, they’ll take these vicious bombings in their stride
They’ll pick themselves up and bury their dead, with sadness but also with pride
But they won’t stand alone, our old rivals down south, ‘cos they’re part of our family, our nation
An attack on our family is an attack on us all, a threat to our civilization
So send off your e-mails, pick up the phone, if you know any people down there
Let them all know that we’re with them tonight, that the people of Birmingham care
