WW! Service Records: Clarify Detail

I'm not sure what's happening here Michael, but I posted a reply to your question yesterday !

The word after Advanced looks like it starts with a hurriedly written "D". That being the case then I suggest the word is "Det.", an abbreviation of Detachment.

Baz.

Many thanks maypolebaz; you did post a reply and I posted another reply to thank you. Also I had a job in the original post uploaded the image - it kept uploaded twice. I finally got it to upload only once and then a little later it appeared twice. All I can think is that some maintenance has been going on?? Anyway thanks again, your reply makes sense. I just hope it doesn't disappear again If it does, I have a screen capture image of it.

Was he in the Royal Engineers Michael? Then the Airline and Motor Airline Companies installed and connected communication wires during WW1. The 'motor' refers to the job being done from lorries with a drum cable on the back to string up the wires. So I suppose 'airline' referred to the telegraph wire. Viv.

Many thanks Viv things are beginning to make sese. Yes he was in the Royal Engineers; 30 Airline Section 1st Army Signals.
