Worthington's Coaches

Peter Walker

gone but not forgotten
In 1949 our family holiday was a fortnight's tour of Scotland in a 'utility' coach operated by Worthington's, from their garage in Hurst Street, next to the back-to-backs. It was a rather primitive vehicle, but it got there and back, climbing some steep hills (with a lot of noise), and coming down the other side. At the time I was just 16, an awkward age when I could hardly be left on my own for a fortnight, so I had to go along too, but apart from me, my parents were the youngest people on the coach.
The following year we did a similar tour in a brand new Midland Red coach, which I think picked us up on the Soho Road.
