Witton Cemetery possibly

My mother`s father William Henry Lyles Hayden died in Kings Norton 18/10/1929. We think he was buried in Witton Cemetery - he was a Quaker and so was not buried in a church graveyard. Sadly my mother is no longer alive so I cannot ask her.
I would like to know for sure where he is buried and, if possible, where in the cemetery his grave is - but I don`t know where to start. Any help would be much appreciated

Hello Jane, There is a downloadable index available at www.bmsgh.org for Witton, Key Hill, Warstone Lane and Handsworth Cemeteries.
You can apply to them for a copy of the entry in the register for a small fee, as he is actually in Witton Cemetery as you thought.
The Cemetery has burial maps and can tell you where the grave is. I can't say whether the grave has a memorial though..

There is a will for a William Henry Lyles Hayden on An*****y showing that William of 99 Cecil Road Selly Park left £462 to his wife Jane Hayden so the chances are his burial is in Yardley, Witton or other nearby cemetery.

Maybe Birmingham library can help you. Good luck.
 
Thanks very much Rosie - I`ve looked at the Index now and see that my mother`s baby sister was also buried there so that was very useful. I will apply to BMSGH to get a copy of the entry in the register for both of them. Is there any way that I could find out if there is a memorial?

Hello Jane, Witton Cemetery charge extra to to give information other than the plot number, last time I asked a few years ago, it was about £12.50. but try phoning or emailing anyway.
Unfortunately I don't live near enough to find out for you, maybe other members might be able to go when you know the plot number etc.

Had a similar problem last year, I looked up web site for the cemetery concerned and found an email address. I only had the date my relative died and they promptly replied with the location of the grave. No charge. Go for it!
