My wife's father, William Henry White, had a confectionery shop in Broad Street and he may have left it by 1933. I am trying to find out if another member of the family (White) took it over.

I think the answers yes:

1921 Kellys
White William Henry, confectioner, 111 Broad street

1932 and 1933 Kellys
White Mrs.Agnes A. confr. 111. Broad St

1940 Kellys
11 Broad St . Withers (Tobaconist ) LTD

Mike, Thank you so much for the rapid and helpful response.
My wife thinks that her father later had a sweet shop on Snow Hill, towards the top. Can you help with this? Roy

Afraid i can't find any trace of William White . confectioner, anywhere (never mind snow hill) in 1940, 1943, 1944 or 1950. That doesn't mean he didn't have a shop for a short period, say between 1934 and 1939, but I don't have directories to cover that period.
