Wilkinson Esther

eileenbrookes

proper brummie kid
Please can someone help me. I have searched high and low for Esther Wilkinson. Her marriage to Robert Green states she was born in Birmingham, but although I have tried many sites, I still cannot find her before marriage.
I have found an Esther who was born at the right time in Gnosall Staffs. Do you think that this would be the correct one? I just don't know where to get help. Her marriage has no parents names. She was born about 1784/5. I would be grateful for any help please.

Re: Unwanted Certs for Eileen Brookes (Off Thread)

Dear Eileen

In the 1841 Census for 2 Charlotte Street Birmingham ref: HO107/Piece 1144 folio 5 page 11 there is an entry for an Esther Green age 65 not born in Warwickshire County and Seth Green age 25 born in the county, both are Steel Pen makers.

On looking for the birth of Seth Green I found
Seth Green born 23 June 1811 Deritend baptised 1 Aug 1814 St Martins Church Birmingham Parents: Robert & Esther Green

Baptism reference at Latterday Saints: batch no 7024006 or Film no 538056. You can double check the St Martins baptism entry in the original registers by putting a request on the St Martins Lookups on the main forum pages.

In the 1851 Census for Aston Birmingham, ref: HO107 piece 2060 folio 528
for Ravenshurst St Alms Houses Aston, Esther Green age 78 a widow born Treckenham? Worcester, in searching remember many of the bounderies between the counties changed over the years and some places may be included in Staffordshire / Worcestershire.

I hope that this is of help to you
Louisa

Re: Esther Wilkinson

Many thanks Louisa, you're a star. I shall study your message in more detail and hope to find something at last.
I felt a bit of a fool asking if Staffs could be Birmingham, but today I found another one of our family listed as born staffs. birmingham, so took a chance to ask for help. I live in Leicester, but some of my family were born in Birmingham. I wish Leic. had as good a site as this. You Birmingham friends always try to help.

Re: Esther Wilkinson

Hi Eileen

I think the place name in Worcester on the census is Feckenham Worcester which is a village just outside Birmingham near Redditch. You can put the place name in the Google maps to locate where it is. In the nineteenth century quite a few people seem to have come from Feckenham to work in Birmingham.

The LDS do not have too many parish registers on line for Feckenham and as you may need some help to locate registers etc to do some followup research so you may be interested in this link to a Worcestershire forum where you can get lookups. Its a site similar to the Birmingham History Forum.

You could also post an equiry or request for help on the Curious Fox website for Worcester.

Some photographs of Feckenham on the Francis Firth Site.

Good Luck with your research
