Astonite. In answer to your question, the player is Alex McClure. He played 198 games for Blues before joining Villa in 1923. He then went to Stoke,Coventry and Walsall, before becoming a coach with Luton in 1927. Sadly he died in 1973. Barry.

Hello Astonian mate, and how are you. We seem to miss each other on here. I look on here every day without fail. Afraid to miss anything I suppose. Nice to hear from you again. Take care, and best wishes to the family. Barry.

Hi, I am new to this site, I saw your photo of Alex McClure who was my grandmothers brother. There was an artical in the "BRUMMAGEM" Issue No. 95 Feb 2009 written by Paul Meereis who said that Alex was his grandfather. I am doing my family history and looking for info into the Mclure history, as Paul and I are related I wondered if any knows him?
Alex had a brother who played football for Blackburn Rovers from 1899 to 1906 named Samuel McClure
Cheers

Welcome Jim. Small world isnt it ? I replied to the original post in May 2008, and here we are 3 years on, discussing him again. I got my info on him from a BCFC book. ( One of many that I have ) But am afraid that was all I could find out. I hope you have luck with your search. It just goes to show, that even after 3 years, someone on this site just might be able to help you. Good luck anyway, and enjoy the site. They're a great, friendly bunch here. Barry.
