I'm trying to sort out some tales regarding my late maternal grandfather; whom I never met. I'm trying to locate the Birmingham refuse department with incinerators in the early 1940's.
He was a stoker for Birmingham Corporation during the war as well as being an ARP. He worked in Birmingham refuse and sanitation - I believe stoking the incinerators. On site was a Home Guard post; if that's any help. My Mother, Joan Mabel Whitehead b. 1928 eventually worked at the refuse dept offices as a young girl for a couple of years.
Sadly William took his own life in 1944 - unsure of reasons why.
Any help in piecing together these odd snippets of locations would be appreciated.
