Gone, but not forgotten.

Paul as far as I am aware the building dates from from the early 1870's, Pauly I'm afraid it's not Gem Street. When this photo was taken this part of the school was being used for another purpose, and I think the whole school has now gone.

I'll offer Unett Street Board School. Formerly a chapel. When the photo was taken (1960s ?) looks like some sort of manufacturing business going on there. Viv.

paul i can see why you think that but im afraid i have no idea where it is but cant wait to find out..

No I'm afraid that nobody has got it right so far, Lyn I thought you might get this one it's your side of the city.

phil is it near the jewellery quarter..it may help if you removed at least one of the black outs lol..

It's not Garrison Lane and it's not the Jewelry quarter, but I seem to remember Lyn telling us she lived in this area when she was a youngster?

well its got to be aston or hockley way then phil..possably lozells as i was on the boundry..

Is it Lozells Girls school, I went there for a year but spent most on my time in the annexe down the road from the main school.

hi phil;
i have reason to beleive its is the old nursery rd coming around from hockley brook or if you like just passing the very old farm street going to
and around to hockley brook before samuels was built and the over head bridge and before they built thou,s
other schools on the gerrard street
and i think that sign out side when taken over was SP- OR SB ; And i think they was there before h samuels came and took over that
building on the whole corner of the brook and that particular build sp- sb was a commercial printers ;
failing that it could have been the floodgate street area ;
have a good day best wishes Astonian;;

Sorry, still no right answer. The location of this school as far as I am aware was in Newtown, and if I am honest it is a school that I must have passed by often but I don't have the slightest memory of.

well i am well and truely stumped on this one phil...there was school in smith st but thats comes under hockley..never seen a pic of that one but would love to..

hi jude i also went to lozells girls from 65 to 71 and also used the annexe further down for gardening and science...

You are getting quite good at this, I have it listed as Elkington St Junior & Infant school and at the time of this photo in 1967 this section of the school on the corner of Elkington St & New John St had been taken over by a printing firm.

well done viv...just looked on my map and ive got my bearings now...thanks phil thats another one to my collection..

Enjoying these Phil. Like several have said, must have passed it many times but it's never really registered. Also the good thing about the photos is you see very little of the surrounding buildings, like the school is in a void, so it makes us all work harder to identify them. As Phil originally hoped, would like to record some memories of schools, so when one comes up that I know something about I'm primed to add to the record!! Thanks for your hard work Phil. Viv.
