Where is this ? Row of Shops 2

I think you will find it is the Flats in Hockley. Apart from the bollards in the foreground it hasn't changed that much since I prowled round there.
Will.

Would i be right in saying" The Flats " were at the bottom of Key Hill and Icknield St ran across the front of the photo. Dek

I'm not sure what is meant by 'the Flats' - but yes it is Hockley, Lodge Road, and in reply to Dek - a bit further up towards the Prison from Key Hill and Icknield St I think.
Had a wander round on Google Streetview and it doesn't look like anything is left anymore.
These are going too quickly - far quicker than the pubs - but gives us hope that we're not all p*** heads.
And here's the 'full picture' .

It was actually known as "the Flat" no plural. It was called that simply because it was the flattest part of the area.

Terry

This is a shop on the flat, but from the other end and is at the top of Ford Street - at the bottom of Lodge Road

Ian, the flat is some distance away from the prison, which I presume you mean Winson Green prison. Any idea what year the photo was taken? Great photo - thanks

Carolynn, I believe the picture dates from around 1910 - and yes I did mean Winson Green Prison.
I thought it was further up Lodge Road, as you can see the uphill section in the distance on the postcard - not exactly ' flat', but my knowledge of
the area is not great and I bow to those in the know.
Nice picture of the old shop in the document you posted.
