Thats a strange one, its looks like an old pub in the background, but they weren't closing pubs in 1950 even if cars were on the up & up. Being honest I haven't a clue so I'll guess at bristol Rd Northfield

Phil

crikey phil..i was going to say the bristol road...what gets me is where is the garage or shop to pay for the petrol..it does look like a pub in the background...

lyn

That's an achievement , if I've foxed you Phil. No. Not Bristol Road Northfield. I think the picture was taken with a wide angle lens, which has stretched it out a bit, and made the building seem larger. There is another photo which gives it more normal proportions.
Mike

water orton road ..that building looks famililar to me would you know if its still there mike..

lyn

Not Water Orton road Lyn . Have just been trying to locate it on streetview via kellys. Kellys of 1950 doesn't list a garage, but does list a motor mechanic , which must be it. The site of this is now new houses, and a small road xxxxxxxx close.
Mike

thanks mike ..i get the feeling that its over that way though so another guess....kingsbury road...

lyn..

Not Kingsbury road, but all these recent guesses are in the right quarter of birmingham
Mike

No , neither of those, but here is the other photo, which is not with a wide angle lens, so not elongated. I have had to do a tiny bit of paintwork on it. i would think this is more true to life . It certainly looks different, but have checked, and , if you ignore elongation and brightness of the photo, it is the same garage. By the way, to the left of the tree on the far left was, and is, a grassed area

Again have reposted but left name on file

I still haven't a clue where it is, just imagine trying to get planning permission for that to day. A petrol station in the front garden. Another Guess Kingsbury Rd?

Phil

Lyn's already tried that one Phil. It seems to still be there in 1965 , from OS map, there;s a clue, you can see it must either 101 or 101-3 XXXXX Road/lane/street etc
