Where is This? 79

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
Who wants to locate this bar , some might be surprised at the location. In truth it looks as if it could have been taken in my old local last week.

Now that just shows the sort of place you used to hang about in, I thought you prefered places like the Kardomah.

It is of course The Pit Bar under The Theatre Royal.

Well Phil, I'm giving my secrets away now!! No, I did prefer the KD but then I am a bit younger than the men in the photo!!!

I think I've seen the photo somewhere before and it stuck in my mind.

Great pictures as usual Phil - was this the Gallery Bar at the Theatre Royal? I wonder what year these were taken.

Judy

Yes it was, please forgive me but I misnamed the photo where they are all seated around barrels. That actually was The Wine Cellars. The other photo of the Gallery Bar and the two I am posting here are of the Pit Bar and the Circle bar they were all under the theatre. The photo's were all taen in 1901.

Phil - those are really fascinating photos. What dark and dingy looking bars they were - well in the photos anyway - I expect the patrons enjoyed themselves, even though they didn't look very happy in the Wine Cellar Bar. There were plenty of bars in the theatre to keep everyone satisfied weren't there. Thanks for the date. I wonder if any of our families ever partook (?) there?

Very possibly, theatre and music halls were the main source of entertainment in those days. Well that and the production of large families.
