Where is This ? 68

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
Right what I need is, where this bus is parked, and as a little extra from you bus buffs. What was added to these buses that there was no need or use for? I have to be honest I do not know the name of the street only the district.

You have answered part of the question. Radiators were added for the sole reason that they wanted these buses to comply with the image that the public thought a motor vehicle should look like.

Now you only need the name of the street or rather district. If you name the street you have more idea than me, although I have my own idea about that.

This is an incredibly rare shot - the Leyland TB's were withdrawn in 1940,and the route they ran - the 7 to Nechells (is that the answer you want?) was converted 'temporarily' to motor bus, but the trolleys never returned. Why was it taken off? Because the trolleybuses ran from Washwood Heath depot to Gosta Green to take up service with one pole up on the tram wire, and the other earthed via a 'skate' which was towed behind in the tram track. This skate bounced about and made a whole lot of sparks, which contravened the blackout regulations!
The buses were stored in Sampson Road tram works (the paint shops behind Kyotts Lake Road works) from 1940 to 1945, then sold for scrap.
So a picture of one in wartime, with light masks and the white lines round the streetside pole, is a real gem!

Where? Probably Nechells Park Road, at the terminus. The houses look right for the area at that time.

WOW!
What you don't don't know about our Buses Lloyd is not worth knowing, fascinating

A sign of a mis-spent youth, Frothy, chasing Guys (the blue and cream double deck variety) instead of girls!

Back to the trolleybus. Under the bonnet, instead of a petrol engine, was fitted the electrical contactors and ancilliary equipment, made by GEC at Witton (Note badge on radiator grille).

I don't have to tell you that you are correct about the location and route No of the bus. If I had been asked the question I would have gone for Nechells Park Rd as well. As Frothblower says there's no fooling you when it comes to public transport is there?
