Where is This ? 66

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
An easy location to identify, but I thought the tram lads could do with a treat.

Salford Bridge stop was quite a busy interchange: trams to and from Tyburn and Slade roads and Gravelly Hill met here as well as Midland Red buses to Sutton, Lichfield, Tamworth and other points north.

The car right foreground was a Standard flying 8 tourer, 1947 vintage (pre-war ones were similar but had louvres in the bonnet sides). If it was GDG 326, it was the second car I ever owned, but long before I had a licence. I bought it from a chap in Streetley Road.

Hi pmc1947.

What a smashing picture, it's got all 3 main tram route in the picture 79 Pype Hayes,78 short Heath,2 Erdington.

It was rare to get an open froned tram on the 78, weused love the ride sitting at the front of the opened front tram and go from Stockland Green to Short Heath terminus hope that no body wanted the stop at the Egdware Rd junction.

The tram used rock all over the place it was better than the Big Dipper at the Onion Fair on the Serpentine ground in Witton.

Happy Days

Hi Ray

Glad you enjoyed the photo, I have no feelings about trams or any form of public transport one way or the other. With trams I have to admit that it amazes me the amount of knowledge that some of the members of this forum retain over fifty years after this form of transport died out in this area.

To this end, I enjoy posting the odd photo of a tram or a bus, especially if it unusual or interesting.

I can certainly do some more that side of Birmingham, but I can't guarantee they will be as easy as the last. Which in reality was posted for its view of the trams.

So keep your eye on this thread and I will see what I can come up with.
